how do I stop flash from automatically running on web pages

HI,

How do I stop flash adds from running automatically on web pages I load.  I am so sick of flash adds running and blasting my speakers out, and when I have multiple tabs running... 15 at a time, I have to hunt for the ads to stop it.  (sometimes they compete or block out what I am listening to at the moment.)  This is becoming increasingly frustrating.

Is there a way to disable flash ads from running automatically...   To be prompted before they will run.  Or find out what the web sites they are downloading from in order to block them?

    Hi,


    You can configure Flash to not play by default.  Method depends on the browser:

    Firefox:

    • go to about:addons
    • search for Flash Player
    • In the menu to the right, select Ask to Activate

    Google Chrome:

    • go to chrome://settings/content
    • Scroll down to Plugins
    • Select Let me choose when to run plugin content
      • This option will affect ALL installed plugins.  Click the Manage individual plugins... link to further refine this option

    Opera:

    • go to opera://plugins
    • search for Flash Player
    • Click Disable (I'm not familiar with a 'ask to enable/activate' option in Opera)

    Internet Explorer

    • go to Settings > Manage Add-ons
    • Search for Shockwave Flash Object (you may need to Show all add-ons first)
    • Click Disable (I'm not familiar with a 'ask to enable/activate' option in IE)

    Safari:

    • go to Safari > Preferences
    • Select the Security tab
    • un-check the Allow Plug-ins check box
      • You can further refine this by website by clicking the Website Settings... button and adding/removing websites
