How do I stop Flashplayer from crashing in Google Chrome?

I have a Dell Optiplex 745, running Windows XP Professional.  I have Avg and Malwarebytes installed.  I use google chrome because I cannot get IE8 to work or firefox to work properly.  I've had the problem of Flashplayer unresponsive or crashing for quite a while and have always run AVG as my antivirus.  I am not very computer literate so please be gentle the flashplayer test page showed that I am not running a correct version of flashplayer, but flashplayer comes with Google Chrome.

How can I stop the unreponsive messages and crashes?

    Correct answer

Yes it is running 11.5 9r615.  I'm not getting the crashing anymore.  I think maybe it is repaired.  what do you think?

I will check for your answer tomorrow.  Once again thank you for all your help.

Hi, Well I think you deserve a rest!! You've done a great job. Flash Player is all correctly Installed and you also have Shockwave Player in all 3 browsers!!!

Since you play games online, be careful as there is a Virus that seems to be on Facebook games and other sites also. If you get a message saying you need to update Flash Player or if this game doesn't start in 10 seconds, etc. DON'T click on anything.

Close out that site. You already know you have the latest Flash Player, so any message contrary to that you certainly want to disregard.

Make sure your Anti-Virus is up to date with the latest definitions.

Have a good evening and keep safe on the Internet!!

Hi, thanks for starting your thread. This is the info posted previously:

please help me.  i run google chrome and my flashplayer freezes or crashes all the time.  I went to the test site and the version i am running is: 10,1,103,20.  the flashplayer comes with chrome and i would think it would be an updated version.  i also run AVG and malwarebytes and have for the past 4 years.  please tell me what i can do to stop the crashes and freezes.  i'm not very good with software so be gentle.  thanks for any suggestions and/or help.

What I would like you to do is go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  You can reach that via My Computer, etc.

Post back all of the files listed there. If there are any NPSWF files, you will need to right click on them and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.

Using IE, go to Tools, Manage addons. Look under "Show"(very light text) in All addons or Run without Permission for Shockwave Flash Object. I need to know if it is listed, Enabled and what version number is listed.

Using FF, go to all plugins and look for Shockwave Flash(SWF) plugin. I need to know if it is listed and Enabled.

When you go to the test page for Chrome, what version of Flash Player is displayed? Can you see the Flash logo animate(spin) when the site opens?

Let me know if you can find this info for the files.

    Thanks,

    eidnolb

I do not have IE or FireFox installed on my computer.  I had to remove them both due to them not being able to load or when loaded they would not open another tab within a window.

Flashplayer version from test page is :  10,1,103, 20.

When test page opens I can see the spinning logo for Adobe.

I checked Google Chrome under options and I do have Adobe Flashplayer enabled.

    In System32/macromed flash

    Flash10e.ocx

    Flash10l.ocx

    FlashInstall

    flashplayer.xpt

    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX

    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll

    FlashUtil20l.Plugin

    install

    NPSWF32.dll ---Verson 10.1.102.64

Hi dsfree08, I'm glad I had you check your Flash folder. What has happened, is that perhaps during an Uninstall/Install for the various browsers, old Flash files were not completely removed. There are files for IE, FF and Chrome. So that is the problem. Also none of the Flash files are complete, so you were/are having problems with all browsers.

What I am going to have you do is Uninstall and Install again, using the links I provide in order to try to get a clean Uninstall/Install. You will be using the Uninstaller and the Installers from your Desktop. You may want to print out these instructions to make it easier to follow.

Be sure to use the Administrator Account to do this.

Download and SAVE to your Desktop the FP Uninstaller:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Go to this website and download and SAVE the IE Installer for Windows, Internet Explorer -EXE Installer to your Desktop.

On the same website, download and SAVE the FF Installer for Windows, plugin based-EXE Installer to your Desktop.

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

After that is done, you will CLOSE all browser Windows, you'll only be looking at your Desktop.

Look in the system tray(area near the clock) and Disable any messenger services.

Just in case AVG may cause a problem, do this:

    LinkScanner

Open AVG User Interface.(Right Click to Open)
    Double-click on the LinkScanner.
Un-tick the option Enable AVG Search-Shield and Enable Active Surf-Shield.

    Save the changes.

    Add Ons  Disable:

    AVG SafeSearch
    AVG Security Toolbar
    AVG Security Toolbar BHO

Once that is done, then Run the Uninstaller from your Desktop. When it is finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

Then Run the Installer for IE, then Run the Installer for FF. When finished, Reboot.

Before you start, let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
