How do you install Flash 23.0.0.185 on Windows XP

Question

I have an older computer running Windows XP with the last version of Google Chrome (I am disabled without much spare cash to replace computer yet).

I had replaced/renamed the dll included in the new flash players to pepflashplayer.dll (and put it in the correct locations) for previous updates, and this worked until last month, when the error Opera browsers were getting showed up in Google Chrome -- any flash content would throw up the error "couldn't load plugin."

I saw word that this was fixed for Opera in pepflashplayer32_23_0_0_162.dll, but figured that's probably only for Opera and not Google Chrome.

Can anyone tell me how, using the standalone installers, what steps are needed to update the Flash Player to version 23.0.0.185 in the last Windows XP version of Chrome? I have no problem renaming or moving files around.

Since Google embeds Flash Player in Chrome and releases updates to Flash Player, the update would normally come from Google, however, as you know, Google dropped support for Chrome a while ago and that means they are no longer releasing Flash Player updates.

The bug in version 23.0.0.162 PPAPI plugin on XP/Vista was fixed in 23.0.0.185. Since Chrome and Opera use the PPAPI plugin your workaround, while not supported, should work. Download and install the latest PPAPI plugin (version 23.0.0.185) then rename and replace the pepflashplayer.dll file used by Chrome.
