How to receive the proper version of Flash Player

I receive frequent notices to update my Flash Player. So I go through the process of downloading, etc. Then I receive a message saying that I already have a newer version on my computer. I would really appreciate it if the nuisance message doesn't appear again until my current version is old enough to update. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Hi,

Do you have the latest flash player installed? If no, you might want to update it.

also you can go to System Preferences -> Flash Player -> Updates and "check" whichever option is convenient for you.
