Question

I can not change my computer's volume when using Flash Player.

I am running a Windows 7 64bit machine and prefer to use Mozilla Firefox. I always had to use various older versions of flash to not have this problem. I assume all the versions of flash player that did not have this problem are now out-dated and can no longer be used (I have tried downloading many previous versions and they did not work.) I decided to update to the current flash version 11.6.602.180 and got reminded about this problem I have. When I am using anything with flash player, I can not use my computers volume control; I would usually have to click on the taskbar or click on a page that is not running flash. Sometimes I can not even scroll down a page that has flash player active. I have not seen any solutions to this problem on forums and would like to finally get one.

Are you only getting this with Firefox?  I suspect you're running into a conflict with our Protected Mode which was introduced in Flash Player 11.4.  Please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in this FAQ:

How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

In particular, I'd recommend temporarily disabling protected mode (for troubleshooting purposes only) to see if that addresses the issue.  Please let me know.

Thanks,

Chris
