I've exhausted my options - flash player still won't work

I have exhausted my options in trying to get videos to work with flash player. I had no problem until about a week ago. It says it installs but when I try to play a video it either does nothing or tells me I need to get the latest version of flash player, which I already have.

I'm supplying my info and what I’ve tried so far. If anyone can offer any other ideas to try I would greatly appreciate it.

OS: Windows 7

Browser: IE8 (32-bit)

Antivirus: Webroot Antivirus with Spy Sweeper (version 7.0.8.7)

I am the administrator

I installed Adobe Flashplayer 10.2.159.1 It can be seen in install/uninstall programs but not in the add-ons. Using advice on the forum I took the following steps:

Disabled various toolbars in the manage add-ons window

Disabled antivirus

Uninstalled/reinstalled from Adobe website

Uninstalled/Reinstalled manually

Performed a system restore

Went to registry to look for kill-bit (didn’t find it)

Verified my java at a java tester website

I went to the Adobe flash player test site and it showed I did not have flash player

These are the files in c/windows/sysWOW64/Macromed/Flash:

Flash10p.ocx (6019KB)

FlashInstall (30KB)

FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.dll (305KB)

FlashUtil10p_ActiveX (Application – 230KB)

What files do you have in c:/windows/sys32/Macromed/Flash?

Carl - I don't have a Macromed folder in sys32. Should there be one? Also, Webroot has quarantined about a dozen little nasties (adware, malware, etc.). Could those be affecting the flash player, and should I be doing something with the quarantined items or leave them there?

Hi, If your Anti-Virus has found malware, then what are their instructions on removing it? Also what are the names of the Malware and the location that it was found? Look in the log that your Anti-Virus should have to find this info.

Malware can effect not only Flash Player, but depending on what type it is other programs on your computer/system.

Is your system a 64bit? I understand you are using the 32bit browser. If you didn't find anything in the system32 location then you would have the Flash files in the SysWOW64 location.

If you don't have the Shockwave Flash Object in the manage addons, that is why Flash Player is not working.

    Thanks,

Manage Add-ons: do you have Shockwave Flash Object in there, and is it enabled?

Hi. No shockwave is not available in the manage add ons section. Also, I

tried using the subInACL available through Microsoft and did the manual uninstall/install and still no luck. This is so frustrating!
