I downloaded the AVG removal tool for 64bit system

I right clicked on the desktop shortcut and clicked "open"

It started automatically and told me to reboot.

I used the tool 3 times and rebooted each time.

    What's next? :-)

A friend has been fighting the problem described in the original post for weeks, so he gave the PC to me this evening to fix.  I found this forum and there seems to be lots of folks having problems with Flash.  I installed the newest beta version (10.3.180.42) from http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/ and the add-on is now listed and Flash with IE8 and Vista now works.  I tried numerous other suggested fixes this evening and this is the one that worked for me.  Good Luck.

What I was told here , is that my computer had the AVG virus. We've been working to clear out my computer so Flash will install properly.

Your suggestion sounds great but at this point I'm hesitant to download anything until I hear from the moderators here.

It's taken me 3 days to get to this point and I think I'm close to fixing the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts but I'll wait for a bit longer and hopefully the next step will resolve my problem...:-)

I turned off my firewall and real time security protection. I downloaded the malwarebytes you recommended and did a total computer scan. It found 4 items that needed to be removed. They were removed and I rebooted. I downloaded Flash Adobe player and Shockwave. I checked in Tools, Manage ad ons and they are both listed and enabled..... My Flash player still won't work...As I mentioned..I have Windows Vista.

I made sure I had no open icons on the bottom right hand

side of my computer next to the clock. I rebooted and installed

Flash player once again.( yes  I do uninstalle  it each time before I try to reinstall it)

It's listed in my "ad ons" Manager, and enabled

I should mention that my computer is taking a very long time to reboot. It gets to the "Welcome" screen,

then it goes all black for about 30 seconds before coming back on to show my desktop.

It wasn't doing this before I started having problems with Flash Player.

Hi, I see you have your thread started:-) I've been busy answering threads that I'm already working on, gets busy around here.

Now I see you've done some things, which are good, thanks. But I have a couple of questions.

What version of IE are you using? Go to Help & click on About Internet Explorer to find out.

I see MBAM is used and removed some malware, good.

What Anti-Virus do you have Installed? Did that one find and or remove any malware?

Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash  Open Flash and post back all files listed.

In Tools, Manage addons, is "Shockwave Flash Object" listed, enabled and what version is it?

Do you use any other browsers than IE? If so which and versions please.

    Thanks,
