Install failed with error code: 23?

Question

A majority of my Macs running fpsaud are reporting install failures (currently running 21.0.0.182 upgrading to 21.0.0.213). This is on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and 10.11 (El Capitan) both. The line in question:

2016-04-08 12:54:19.741 Adobe Flash Player Install Manager[71072:1809215] Install failed with error code: 23.

Anybody know what error code 23 is?

Hi,fpsaud isn't associated with error 23, and would not return it. fpsaud is the Flash Player Background Update Daemon. Error 23 is returned by the Flash Player installer itself. Flash Player creates a file, ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/install_vector.txt, at installation time. Error 23 is returned under the following conditions: existing file can't be deleted, new file can't be created, directory can't be created if it's missing, or modify the permissions of the file so that it can be deleted by the user. By the installer returning this error it's essentially indicating the likelihood of a permissions issues on the filesystem. Please ensure the permissions are set correctly on that directory.Also, since fpsaud isn't involved in this error, I removed it from the subject to ensure the subject was more accurate.--Maria
