Install fails for Flash Player Yosemite (latest)

Last choice on the installation help page is ask expert. I've already tried everything else, including the clean installation instructions. The installer launches, downloads and starts the installation with progress bar reaching past 50%, then everything halts with the failure message and the red x. There aren't any other issues on this computer, according to Etrecheck, except that Time Machine isn't enabled at the moment. Please suggest what might cause a specific problem for Flash installation. Thanks.

Correct answer Thintifus

I was eventually able to install. These are the actions I took after latest failure.

Rebuilt Spotlight database

Repaired permissions on boot volume

Added Administrators group with read/write access to /var/folders

Downloaded and tried a new Adobe Flash installer (3rd time)

Accepted existing update check preferences (Notify me to install updates)

Yeah, this is frequently a corrupted filesystem or disk permissions.  That's probably what fixed it for you.
