Installation for Linux is broken or useless or both for 64bit FF
Hey all,
I've spent the better part of my day dealing with the downloadable linux version of 10.2 for Linux.
First off let me state we are using Firefox 64 bit. The RPM version for Linux may in fact work for 32bit Firefox installs, however if you are using 64 bit Firefox install with NSPluginwrapper to wrap in 32 bit Flash-plugin then the RPM version off this site will not work for you. In this case I highly recommend finding an RPM for your distribution that understands this compelling difference as Adobe's RPM does not. I can state that the installer for OpenSUSE through Yast, does indeed work properly.
Second the .tar.gz file ONLY includes libflashplayer.so. There is no installer included in the tar.gz file as previously indicated by past installation instructions (Adobe forum guys take note, install instructions are out of date OR the .tar.gz is missing the installer). Again this would probably be fine if you are running 32bit Firefox under a user account and just need to overwrite libflashplayer.so in your ~/.mozilla/plugins directory.
Lastly I do appreciate the effort Adobe has put forward into working with Linux, but it appears that the first place anyone using Linux should look for updates to Flash-player is still from the distro and not from Adobe if you use Linux for anything more than an occasional desktop. I'm really looking forward to the move to 64bit and the end to all this NSPluginwrapper business. The sooner Adobe can wrap that up and get an actual RC for Square the better
