Installation of Flash PLayer not working

I have tried to download the latest version of Adobe FLash Player twice... both times it says the installation was successful, but when I try to open a link that requires Flash Player, it keeps telling me that my Flash Player is outdated. I have a MacBook Pro, OSX 10.7.5, using Safari.  What's up?!
