installation problems with Mac OSX 3.9

after downloading flash player 9, instead of getting confirmation of successful instalation, a pop-up box appears saying "has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:" I am running Mac OSX v3.9, which is supposed to be compatibale, but I can't find anyway to fix it.
HELP!!!

    Try these technotes. They're not exactly the same as what you're seeing but I suspect you have a permissions problem..
