Intermittent Crash with Video and Webcam Content

I have noticed the same thing since 24.0.0.221 on 2/14/2017, primarily in Chrome PPAPI, on both Mac and Windows.  Primarily in a player that uses webcam video, and NetConnections (if that helps).  Thanks.

In short, I can generally get a fix turned around in pretty short order, if I can get:

    • steps to reproduce
    • crash reports
    • detailed descriptions of affected configurations

If you need to post something to a public test server and give me a confidential link, you can send me a private message.

(Click my name, and choose Message).  I'll add the details to our internal bug report for investigation, but will keep it out of public view.

Additional details on what information is useful, and how to collect and post crash reports are here:

I was having a similar issue also. And in the end did a system restore back to an earlier point and download the lastest flash player and it seemed to cure the issue

Well - we have a lot of pure Actionscript with no MXML that's also crashing. So I don't think this can be pinned to Flex. It's possible it could be pinned to something in the fl.* library, but we have 50,000 lines of code at least in various Flash front-ends and there's been no repeatable action causing the crash that we've been able to pull out. In fact it most often seems to happen while the user is completely idle and away from the desk, they come back and it's crashed. This code only runs a single interval timer, too, for logout. At first I thought they must have some video ads open or something, but that's not the case either.

But I'm surprised if removing the Flex code fixed the problem for you (?)

Yea, it doesnt make much sense that it fixed it.  The guy who did it cleaned up some of the code, and possibly removed a few unneeded imports and features, so that could have helped as well.

Same as all above in this thread. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Edge flash player crashes on our app and flowplayer's demo pages. Can crash in 2 minutes, can crash in 6, can crash in 30. Completely unpredictable and I can't correlate a cause and nothing gets to the log files.

Thousands of support tickets per hour for us and now as a core part of our platform is still built on flash. help!!

    Internal Testing:

24.0.0.194 zero errors across 12 devices tested. update to 24.0.0.221 all 12 devices crash.

I'm pretty sure that the original poster is running into a GPU driver issue.

Unfortunately, the way the replies were threaded, I can't cleanly separate the posts about these symptoms out to their own discussion.

I'm posting the rest of your reply below, so that we can provide more relevant advice for both the folks with this problem, and help the original poster with their issue.

    ---- From Brad Gunn ----

I will try the hardware acceleration in a moment, but because our product is used by the average person at home, having them disable this auto-enabled feature would be hard for us.

here is a link to our pre-staging product: Welcome to Video Questionnaire | Take the Interview  this is a secure enterprise compliant product, and none of your data / what you do would persist for much longer than a couple of days.

Go ahead and register even with a fake email and let the flash player sit on the screen, particularly anything after the first intro flash player with a parrot scene that is meant for you to test / set up your hardware. We find decently spec'd computers take MUCH longer to crash - if you have a 4gb macbook air these cash consistently in under 10 minutes. Just leave the flash player open, that's all thats required to crash it over time.

edit: how does Basic Configuration : Flowplayer  respond for you? Like other posts have said, it seems to be a global issue with all flash players. These crash for me too.

I attempted to reproduce the problem on your service, but I get stuck at the "Loading the plugin" screen, after choosing the "Order In The Court" interview.  I've tried a couple machines on different networks with no success.

I do not see a crash with the Basic Configuration: Flowplayer link, and I've tried a couple machines with various browsers there as well.

I'll continue to play with this, but what would be really helpful, is an actual crash report or minidump, along with browser, OS, and Flash Player version information for your affected system/systems.  The faster I can find a machine that reproduces the problem, the faster I can get someone on it.

Please see the following guide on how to report a crash or error:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/report-flash-player-crash.html

If you could file a bug over at tracker.adobe.com with the details and crash dump and post the bug number here, I can get that routed to someone for triage very quickly.
