Question

Internet Explorer 10 crashes badly with any video, if I check for the current verion of Flash installed it shows it being way out dated, (18,0,0,209), yet the most current version of Flash is installed on my laptop, (21,0,0,182). Windows 7 home, 64

Additional info is HP Laptop, Pavilion G Series.

Flash works fine in Firefox and Chrome.

    Hi,

    IE and Firefox use two different versions of Flash Player (ActiveX Control for IE and NPAPI plugin for Firefox).  Is it possible you have version 18 installed for IE and version 21 installed for Firefox?  Please do the following:

    1. Launch Windows Explore
    2. Ensure your system is configured to display file extensions (see Show or hide file name extensions - Windows Help‌)
    3. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    4. Adjust the 'Name' column to ensure the entire file names are visible
    5. Take a screenshot of the directory contents (see How to post a screenshot in the forum)
    6. Navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    7. Repeat steps 4 and 5
    8. Launch Control Panel and navigate to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
    9. Ensure the Version column is visible, adjust the Name and Version columns so that they display the entire program name and version
    10. Take a screenshot of the Flash Player entries
    11. Post the 3 screenshots in your reply

    Here are the screen shots you asked for:

    It appears you hit the nail on the head, the question now is how do I fix it.

    Remember, IE is all but worthless currently as it crashes with almost any kind of image or video display.

    Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

    As of Windows 8, Microsoft embeds Flash Player in IE and Edge in Windows 10. All updates are distributed by Microsoft via Windows Update, so separate standalone installers do not exist.  The embedded version of Flash Player ActiveX exists in the same directory WinDir\SysDir\Macromed\Flash directory but does not have a version number appended to the file names (see images below) as the Flash Player ActiveX files in your system have, so I'm not sure if there's something wrong with your installation or not.

    Please try running Windows Update and look for updates named either 'Update for Vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge' or 'Security Update for Flash Player'.
