Funny thing is Google Video works! And Google OWNS Youtube! The same with Liveleak. Correct me if I'm wrong but both these sites also use Flashplayer don't they?

So what gives? Was Youtube trying to use some fancy new technology on their players that screws a lot of people up?

i received a reply to my plea from youtube. haven't had a chance to try it yet - and it's only a temp fix [supposedly].
    Hi there,

Thanks for your email. We have found that turning off any third-party ad blocking or pop-up blocking softwares such as Norton AntiVirus that might be running on your computer, has resolved the issue in the past. Also, please know that this is a temporary solution while we work with our engineers to fix the issue.

In case you continue to have trouble, please do the following:

    1) Check your Proxy Settings
    - In IE 6 click on Tools> Internet Options.
    - Go to the "Advanced" tab and scroll down to HTTP1.1 settings
    - Check the box which says "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections"
    - Click on "OK" and refresh the page.
    2) Download the latest Flash player. To learn how to do this, visit our Help Center at http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=57669.
    3) Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, Close all instances of the browser. Re-launch and try again.

If you’re having trouble with our site and have already cleared the cache and cookies, you may want to upgrade your current browser or switch to another browser to see if that remedies the problem. However, make sure that this browser has the latest version of Flash player installed.

    Hope this helps,

What makes you think it's not Youtube's fault?? We've tried everything and other flash websites seem to work! But if you want to waste your time and reformat go right ahead. When I had this problem before one of the Adobe tech support guys even had me mess around with my registry and then download something from windows for a supposed fix. Guess what? NOTHING still worked!

I finally gave up and then a few days later Youtube worked fine again.

I'm having the same trouble with Youtube and itv.com - in IE 7, Opera and Firefox.

Does anyone have an example of a site that relies on Flash and that is working so I can have a look see?

yes. please flood youtube w/ these complaints to speed up the fix. it's been going on for way too long and folks have been very, very slow to respond to it. and yes, there are many of us who this is affecting. just take a look at the number of responses to my original plea for help which i sent to this list last night!!

There has to be some way of contacting Youtube, they seem oblivious about this!
