Keep getting messages promping me to add flash player?

Not sure what to do.  I use IE8, and when i visit websites that play videos, i am always prompted with the following message:

"This website wants to install the following add-ons: 'Adobe Flash Player' from 'Adobe Systems Inc . . .'  If you trust the website adn the add-ons and wnat to install it, click here . . . "

I complied and proceeded to install only to find out that I already have installed v. 10.1.  So my question is? why do i consistently keep getting this message if i already have the latest version?  And how can i stop it from constantly coming up?? This is very frustrating.

Maybe a previous version was not completely uninstalled?  What files do you have in folder %WINDIR%\system32\Macromed\Flash (%WINDIR% usually being C:\Windows)?

I contacted adobe flash today and was able to install it, only to find that i had already updated the flash player 10.1 so i'm not sure what is going on.  I have contacted the specific website that always prompts me to update my flash player on the information bar.
