Question

Most recent update slows performance painfully

My wife accepted the automatic update feature, and it updated our flash player to 10.1.85.3 a few days ago. Ever since, the programs using flash (even Adobe's website) are running painfully slowly - the kids can't even use their homework program from school (times out saying they took too long to answer).

I have tried uninstalling completely, and installing the older version 10.1.82.76 which seems to work fine on our other computer. However, that worked only briefly (almost seems like some kind of a buffer got full), then started doing the exact same thing. I cannot determine what previous version we had. My next thought was to go back to version 9, but not sure what that will do.

Running Windows XP SP3.

Anyone else having the same problems? Has anyone been able to fix this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My IT team had to put me back on Adobe 9, too bad. But I'm glad everything is working again.

I am a computer teacher, and I'm having the same issues with all 30 student computers since updating to Flash player 10 last week. All 3 programs I use: www.starfall.com, www.educationcity.com, and www.studyisland.com all use flashplayer and all are working very slowly for students. I'm getting lots of complaints! Anytime they play a game or select an activity, it either is slow to start (Ed City) or is slow the entire time they are using it (Study Island & Starfall)

I had to upgrade to 10 to use with another program we use here, www.skillstutor.com.

    Specs:

    Dell Optiplex 780

    XP Service Pack 3

    Intel Core 2 Duo

    2.93 GHZ/3.21 GB RAM

    IE 8.0.6001.18702

Here's what I've tried to fix:

    1. Uninstall 10 and reload flash 9, but Ed City prompted me to upgrade.

    2. Uncheck Java quick starter, no fix.

    3. Increase virtual memory to 3071, no fix.

    4. Increased browsing history to 512, no fix.

    5. Reloaded a computer, no fix.

Any help would be most appreciated!

See my other post a few minutes ago for instructions to ununstall 10.1 and install the older 9.0 version. That seemed to resolve my issue, you just need to somehow skip the update.

However, if the software or web site seems to be requiring the upgrade (check - we had the same problem - software prompted, but runs fine on old version if you ignore), try re-installing the older 10.1.82.76 version. The link to that may be here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp10.1_archive.zip

Thank you, I'll try anything at this point. All programs work fine on both teacher computers, just not the student computers, same thing you

    mentioned.

I was really surprised how hard it's been to resolve this issue and not finding any clear instructions when I Google from anyone or on Adobe forums other than uninstalling and going back to the old one.

I would feel somewhat better if Adobe would post a comment that they are aware of a problem and are working on it. I just don't think our situations are unique to this at all.

I have a similar problem.  On September 30th, my computer worked the way it always had (well, since I'd gotten it--approximately a month ago.)  On October 1st, I had issues with it slowing down until it was almost frozen.  It didn't seem to matter whether I was using FF or IE, it would slow to a crawl.  I seem to have narrowed down the issue to the Family Feud game on Facebook; that seems to cause the slowdown.  I am using the latest version of FF on a Windows 7 64-bit system, and IE 8.  I have shut down and rebooted since then, but the slowdown occurs each time.  I disabled Flash last night, and have not had an extreme slowdown since, although there is a teeny bit of lag now and then.  At the same time as my computer started slowing down, I started getting messages for unresponsive scripts, which I hadn't seen before then.  I would like to enable Flash as without it, I can't view videos at any of the sites I usually visit.  However, the glacial slowdown isn't acceptable, either.  If anyone has a suggestion that they can offer in Computer Dummy talk, I would appreciate it.

My current status to resolve the problem has been uninstalling 10, and installing the old archive version 9. It is relatively easy, but somewhat cumbersome to find the link for the old 9 version.

Here is the link for the uninstall: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html?promoid=DTEGO

Here is the link to the page where you can find the link for the old version 9 : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

And I think this is the actual link to the 9.0.280 archived version:

    Hope this helps!

Thank you--I'll try it.  Fingers crossed that it solves the issues!

Hi, can you see the animation and what version is stated?

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Test with each browser you have Installed. When you post back, please include your browsers and versions. Also is this a 64bit system or 32bit?

    Thanks,

10.1.85.3 was the initial problem version, but the 10.1.76.x archived version also did not work.

I have downgraded further to the 9.01.x archive version, and that seemed to work (at least initially - I will find out if the kids complain).
