my computer says i dont have the latest version

my computer says I don't have the latest version and wont open but when I use check now it says I have it and then it gives me an error message that says it had problems with the installation. but wont give me a code or anything what am I doing that is wrong or what can I do to fix this I need the flash player for some of my college courses asap
