My videos and games are slowing to a crawl after 3 minutes. Why?

My videos and games slow to a crawl after about 3 minutes. If I don't close them quickly, my computer will start running like molasses and might even freeze. I have the latest version of Flash. I have no idea what is causing this. I use Windows Vista and have the latest video drivers. Help!
