Question

No internal webcam activity when having a Kinect connected

Hello everyone!

I've been having a strange issue since Flash Player 11.3 update. Suddenly after updating my flash player version my internal webcam began to show no activity feedback. I tried many sites using webcam but I only get a black screen after accepting webcam access.

I also tried opening the security dialog and manually allowing the webcam permission, but I always got the black screen. With the debug version of the player I didn't get any error messages.

But... today I tried unplugging my Kinect for Windows and suddenly everything went back to normal! My internal webcam works fine on every website ONLY if have my Kinect unplugged.

One more important thing: Every time I open the security dialog I only have my internal webcam listed on the webcams combobox, my Kinect camera is never listed but it seems to be the source of the problem.

My system is:

- HP Envy 17 laptop

- Windows 7 x64

- Flash player 11.3 to 11.4 (latest version installed today)

- IE 9, Chrome 22.0.1, Firefox 15.0,1 (didn't work on any of them)

- Kinect For Windows with latest drivers installed (from SDK v.1.5)

Anyone has experienced this same issue? Is there any fix available? Should I wait for a player update?

Thanks,

Nicolas.

Hi,

If you right-click on a SWF and choose Settings, then go to the Camera tab, can you select your internal camera from the menu with the Kinect plugged in?

Thanks,
Jeromie

Hi Jeromie, thanks for yor quick reply.

Yes, my internal webcam "HP ENVY HD Webcam" is listed on the Camera combobox. It's the only camera listed, there are no other cameras even with the Kinect plugged (I don't know if Kinect RGB camera should be available on flash player). I can click over the small video preview under the combobox (the one showing a webcam icon) but it shows an empty white rectangle. Another interesting detail is that the webcam activity led never lights up.

Once again, if I unplug the Kinect and reload any website, the webcam works perfectly as usual. Could it be some kind of conflict with the Kinect drivers? I never experiencied a crash or hang up, the only issue is the webcam not turning on.

Thanks,

Nicolas.

Do you experience the same issue with non-flash applications that use the webcam?
