Seem this problem even lives on in Windows 7 64bit, i hope that screen saver trick still works too...

Damn, in Win7 this bug even screws up the screensaver

    Hi.

I thought I would share some of my findings while playing around with the monitor power and screensaver settings. I have tried the following settings:

    1. Monitor Power off: 1 min, Screensaver: None (2 min) -> Monitor powers off after watching some videos in youtube

I have not tried this on a higher time settings like 20 min or so yet. It seems if you set your screensaver wait time>monitor power off time, monitor seems to power off, even if you set your screensaver to none. But if the screensaver wait time =< monitor power off time, monitor just powers off for second, and turns back on. Can anyone else confirm this?

Edit: I just tried my settings with monitor power off: 20 min, Screensaver: None (21 min). Watched a youtube video (windowed mode), and monitor turned off after 20 min.

    currently i was using:

3 min monitor off, 3 min active screensaver

Wich worked but was annoying since VLC cant prevent the screensaver in openGL video.

    So i tried:

3 min monitor off, 3 min deactivated screensaver

Wich turned the monitor off and right on again.

3 min monitor off, 4 min deactivated screensaver

Seems to work fine, ill keep this setting for now..thanks.

I'm glad to be able to help since this thread helped me a lot too.

I had always wondered why my monitor randomly fails to go into standby until I tracked it down after watching some online videos.

I suppose this bug is a bit hard to find since it involves specific conditions for the screensaver.

he only fix is to goto task manger users and click on disconnect or reboot computer.
    Or run sandboxed

    March 30, 2011

FYI, the work-around fixed my problems. If people wanna go manually make it work by rebooting or click something on the task manager, they would have turn off the monitor manually by themselves. So those are not "fix".

Try the work-around I mentioned. It works for me and some others. At least I think it should work for XP user.

I just read and found out that this problem exists in windown 7 too, brillaint.

    window xp sp3

I have this same problems with Adobe Flash Player for IE version 10.1 and Adobe Flash Player Plugins version 10.0

Can anyone tell me if this problem fixed in version 10.2? If positive I would upgrade it, or else I would downgrade it.

And one more question, should I just upgrade Flash player for IE, or both (including Plugins)

    Thanks. Please reply.

    ==========

p/s A weird idea just popped up in my mind and then I found a weird solution. I wondered why the screensaver works while the monitor standby doesn't work.

So I set screensaver to 4 minutes, and monitor standby mode to 5 minutes. It works!

I futher tested it. I found out that as long as sreen saver is activating, the monitor standby would be fixed by itself. Ha. Even after you used adobe flash player.

So now it's easy, just enable screen saver, set the time 1 minute later  than the time of monitor standby,  Then I can watch videos online. And the monitor would go into standby mode as normal.

Screen saver seems to debug flash player's bug. I tried to set screen saver the exaxtly same time with monitor standby, that also works. When it reach the time, XP will just ignore the screen saver and then set the monitor into standby mode.

So either one work. Set screen saver one minute later or exactly the same time with your monitor standby time. This is WEIRD but Fun!

    ==================

THOUGH, let me know if the newest version have fixed this annoying issue. Please REPLY, anyone please.

And again, since the latest update its not working anymore (full screen use doenst matter, just playing a flash video disables it). Before that my screen went into standby after the set time (even if it was playing a flash video, but i liked this better than not going into standby at all). An now my screen is full time powered on again.

Guess i have to try that screensaver workaround.

    You are so lucky Nurpsel!

    Isn't fixed at all.

I still get exactly the same issue.

I do not understand that Adobe take such a long time to fix a bug that affect all XP SP3 users.

Im only lucky until i really want to watch a movie with youtube or something similar. Just tested..screen also goes into standbay while watching full screen stuff. I wonder what change that behavoir in my system. Could only be updated ATI drivers..but then its not really a display driver issue since its not going into standby on my other system with nvidia..i should check how that i reacting now..

How did you get it fixed?

    October 25, 2010

We are aware of the issue and have been working to provide our XP users with a fix.  While I cannot comment on future releases it will be fixed.

Great to hear from you, thanks for the update.

It was reported fixed (although it obviously wasn't). But the bug report got reopened in July. It's been a bad bug and a loooong time. Still says unresolved as now:

    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4975

However the bug report points to a solution. Apparently the bug doesn't exist in Flash version 9. So I downgraded to Flash 9 and now everything works again (except for the sites that require 10). Here is how to do it.

First you need to download and run the uninstaller that will allow you to downgrade:

    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe

Then you can download and install Flash 9 from here:

    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp9r280_plus_archive.zip

There are many files in the archive, the one you want to install is: flashplayer9r280_winax.exe

If you get the warning "this is not the latest version" and it won't install, make sure you used the uninstaller above. See more details and links to even older Flash versions at:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

    Voila, I'm half-fixed for now.

You can also obtain FP9 on the regular download page (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/) by specifying an old OS version.  (The archived FP downloads can be rather large, as they contain all released versions for all platforms.)

Everyone thank you for your comments and feedback.  We believe we found the potential problem in Flash Player for Windows XP only.  I don't know when a fix will be released but we are actively working on it.

If anyone has this problem outside of Windows XP please let me know.
