Old AFP versions

Is it normal that I have old versions of Adobe Flash Player that won't go away?

I have versions 15 and 18 still on my Add-on/Plug-in list even though it's updated to version 21. The older ones are set to "Never Activate" but I wonder why they don't go away, even when I uninstall/reinstall the Flash Player?

Please try a clean install:

  1. Download the current uninstaller
  2. Download the current installer - Launch Firefox and navigate to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
  3. Close all browser windows, and any other application that may use Flash Player (e.g. instant messaging clients, etc) and run the uninstaller
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Launch Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
    • If there are files that have 'Plugin' in the file name delete them - do NOT delete any other files in this directory
  6. If this is a 64-bit OS, navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    • If there are files that have 'Plugin' in the file name delete them - do NOT delete any other files in this directory
  7. Launch Firefox, navigate to about:addons > Plugins
  8. What versions of Flash Player, if any are listed?
  9. If Flash Player is not listed, install Flash Player downloaded in step 2

M. Vargas: After two tries w. the below recipe I finally only see version 21.0.  On the first try one older version was uninstalled and the other (15.0) remained.  Second time did it, though.  Thanks very much for your knowledge and your patience!-David

Hi,

Flash Player uninstalls previous versions at install time.  However, depending on the OS and browser, if Flash Player is in use, files for the previous version will remain, orphaned.  Usually the orphaned files are removed when the system is rebooted.

  • What is the operating system, including version?
  • What is the browser, including version?
  • Please post screenshots (see How to post a screenshot in the forum) of the following:
    • Plug-ins list showing previous versions
    • directory view of C:\Windows\System32\Madromed\Flash
    • if this is a 64-bit OS, a directory view of C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

Windows 10, Firefox 45.0.1.  Unable to find snipping tool.  But 15.0 and 18.0 remain above 21.0 in my Add-on list after I uninstalled and reinstalled the AFP.  Maybe I'll just try that again.Thanks.David
