Old local player v9 after Flash v10 installation

Greetings all,

*** XP Pro SP3 ***

I installed latest Update Flash 10.0.12.36

The procedure suggested by Adobe - remove old version using uninstaller and the standalone Installer as I always do. All went fine without any Errors

But now when I tested local swf file playback Adobe player 9 r115 showed up (???) and played it. That never happened before.
There is no v9 listed in Add/Remove.
Plug-ins for IE7 & Firefox are correctly installed and working in both browsers.

Can anybody tell please, why old Flash was not removed?
Where I can find old flash on my PC and how to clean it up, so Flash 10 is set as a default (off-line) Flash Player

Thank you in advance
My regards

    1) Since the old version is part of CS3 will the update you suggesting break something cs3-flash- related?
    2) If not, does the procedure of installing standalone Flash include prior Uninstall and where to get that for standalone player only?

You don't have to worry about uninstalling the standalone player. And no, there should be no breakage that I can think of. Proceed...

the description about updating to v9 (???).

If you have CS3 then you can only update to the Flash 9 stuff for CS3. This update creates a final-version of FP9 Players folder but it does NOT install players. So if you run this you'd have all the CS3 updates, but you'd still have your installed Flash Player 10 from previous installs (for the browser). There is no way to update CS3 to test movie with FP10...

I know it's a little confusing. But to keep it simple..
    1. For your browsers, update to Flash Player 10 from the live site /go/getflashplayer
    2. For CS3 authoring, get the CS3 update so you have the latest component and code fixes for Flash CS3.
    3. To test CS3 published content, test in a live browser

I believe what's happened here is that you've updated the browser players. That's not the same as updating the standalone player. If you get the plugin for Firefox or the Flash Player ActiveX control for IE, all you get is the plugins/control for that browser.

To update the standalone player that launches when you double-click a SWF you'd have to get the Flash Player 10 authoring update, which includes the standalone player. It's at

    Hi BWolfe.

Thank you for reply. It made me think, which is good

Now I see... not all but something
    FlashPlayer.exe v9,0,115,0 indeed reside in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\Players.
Funny because it reminds me the question I was going to ask for a long time:
Why neither CS2 nor CS3 do not include Java and Flash in their Updates? I do have many oldies there in that respect. I do understand that the question is OffTopic here and I am not expecting the answer. I will probably create separate thread for that.

But here I may ask few on topic questions.
    1) Since the old version is part of CS3 will the update you suggesting break something cs3-flash- related?
    2) If not, does the procedure of installing standalone Flash include prior Uninstall and where to get that for standalone player only?
The site sais that Adobe AIR 1.1 should be applied
    So I found
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\AIK\runtimes\air\win\Adobe AIR\Versions\1.0
and it has old Shockwave as well !!!??? NPSWF32.dll v 9,0,115,0

Well, confusing more then ever and anyway related to CS3 not being updated despite many updates received…hmmm

Thanks again for response and thanks in advance for the new tip.

    Hi all,

    In addition to the above and after reading some posts here I search the disk for any presence of flash9*.* and the Registry for CLSID mentioned in a few threads {685A56F8-75B6-44AD-B3DA-FB0A3266B47C}
    (as in this thread http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=44&catid=184&threadid=1400029&enterthread=y)
Nothing like that is present here
So how come I am getting this when playing swf?
