trying to install flashplayer 11 for firefox and keep getting this eror message, "only a single instance of this application can run"

I have run virus scans

tried installing in safe mode

tried to run as administrator, when I did the install file vanished

I first stopped the running install process. then I used the offline installer and it worked.
