osx 10.11: installer appears in the doc, bouncing, but doesn't launch

I am having problems with this as well on a new MBP with the same OS.  Mine doesn't even get the installer started, so there isn't any record in install.log of the problem.  When I double click on the Install icon, it appears in the dock, bouncing as it should, but nothing else happens.  IS there other information that would help you in troubleshooting?
