Question

Partial Failed installation flash 10.1

On my Powerbook PPC G4 (10.5.8), flash 10.1 installed fine and works with all browsers (safari, Opera, Firefox).

On my Win 7 x64 machine life has not been so sweet. While it appears to work in IE 8 (going to youtube), I do not get a confirmation of version number when I go to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html.

When I try with Firefox (3.6.3), it will neither play a youtube video or confirm the version number at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html. It states I need to download the Adobe Player plugin v. 10.0.45.

I always uninstall the previous version and reboot before running the install. I have tried running the install over the current installation; uninstalling, rebooting, re-installing, as well as re-downloading the file, uninstalling, rebooting, and re-installing. All to no avail.

Suggestions would be much appreciated.

TIA,

shnew

    Dear eidnolb,

Well, your recommendation to take a deep breath arrived a little late (<g>): not feeling comfortable about the security of the installation, I had already uninstalled flash.

This morning, after backing up, I reinstalled install_flash_player_ax.exe and used the install_flash_player.exe you linked to. Both browsers now correctly confirm their version number and play videos.

    Many thanks for your assistance.

with all best wishes for an enjoyable weekend,

    sincerely,

Hi, shnew, Good news indeed Well, you probably took that deep breath after completing all you did:-) Job well done on your part.

Thanks for marking your thread as answered as I'm sure it will be receiving many views. Good subject title too.

I may just use your thread to refer to if you don't mind.

The upcoming weekend, well we have had so much rain in my part of the Country, so here's hoping:-) Difficult to get the mowing and yardwork done:-)

    Best to you also,

    eidnolb

    Dear eidnolb,

No, I don't mind if you refer others to this thread -- always happy to help others, even if only as a guinea pig for what works and what doesn't

(What? You would rather be doing yardwork, rather than updating/troubleshooting your own machines!!??!! Whatever weather your weekend brings, have a enjoyable one).

    Again, thanks for your assistance.

Hi, Ok, take a deep breath:-) You are using the 32bit browser, correct? Try this test site using IE8:

    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Download to your Desktop the Flash Player Installer for Firefox:

    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

I would suggest not doing any more Uninstalling/Installing until we have a chance to see what is what.

Close all browsers and run the FP Installer above for Firefox, and then Reboot.

Then using FF, try the test site and post back.

    Thanks,

    eidnolb
