Performance issue while playing videos after one of the latest updates to Flash Player 20

Hi,

I have a little problem with playing videos on some sites. It started about a week ago when I noticed three things:

- streams and videos on twitch.tv are impossible to watch on the highest setting ('source' quality). They're extremely laggy, playback is choppy and quite often image is skippping for a second or two. Between the 'skips' it looks like slow motion.

- similar problem occurs while watching youtube videos in 1080p (max for my monitor), altough it's much less severe - player is dropping single frames every now and then so the video is absolutely watchable but the difference is noticeable

- with the quality set to auto (on youtube) it no longer switches me to 1080p after a few seconds. It just simply doesn't go beyond 480p on its own.

It all happened this year, it looks the same on both Firefox and Opera, I didn't install any new programs or addons for a while. I'm using flash player instead of html5 (old computer) so it's I think it's the right place to ask about this problem.

    This sounds like a network issue, but I am curious how you forced both YouTube and Twitch to use the legacy Flash video players over the HTML5 implementations?

    I don't think it's a network issue, I have 50Mbit connection and its speed hasn't changed at least since September. I was watching highest quality videos with no issues whatsoever until the end of the year at least. More - on youtube there's progress bar so I know that everything is loading pretty fast. I'm not really sure about twitch but on youtube it's pretty easy - I'm using Firefox browser (it fits my needs best) and depending on browser version youtube decides which player to use. It's quite easy to tweak the User Agent to show youtube whatever you want. In the latest version Mozilla tweaked it themselves and for yt Firefox looks like one of the older versions - flash is still a default player. Great for all XP users (and other people with older computers).

    EDIT. I didn't do anything to twith.tv but now I uninstalled the Flash Player and it says: "No supported video backend available; Flash is not installed". So I'm sure I'm using flash player on both sites.
