11 fixes for no sound in Flash videos  http://www.codecguide.com/fix_for_flash_sound_problems.htm

Most video websites, such as YouTube, use Flash for their videos. A lot of people have problems with the Adobe Flash browser plugin. The most common problem is that the sound is not working. Below you can find 10 solutions for Flash related sound problems.

   1. Flash stores its files in a temporary files folder. A corrupt download can cause the sound problems.

      Delete the following folders:
      C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Adobe\Flash Player                               DELETED
C:\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player                      Will NOT LET ME DELETE
   2.
      Empty your temporary internet files.

Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet Options     <------------------------------------------------------------------Cleared them Both, IE and FF
Firefox: Tools -> Clear Private Data
Opera: Tools -> Delete Private Data
   3.
      Empty your temporary files folder.

Use this command to empty your temporary files folder:
      Start -> Run -> RMDIR /S /Q "%TEMP%"                                                                     Windows cannot find RMDIR
   4.
Install the latest version of the Flash plugin. You can download it HERE.http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
If you have problems upgrading the plugin, then uninstall your existing version first with this tool. Close your browser(s) before you run the uninstall tool. <--- Installed Successfully!  Plug-In # 10____in C Program Files
   5.
Run the K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool. Near the top you should see an option to fix the sound (Midi, WaveOut). Select that and press Next. If the option is grayed out, then that particular registry fix is not needed. This fix will restore a missing "wavemapper" registry key.<---- What is a K-Lite Codec Tweak Tool? SEARCHED Nothing with that name was found
   6.
Go to the Flash Player Settings Manager website. Click HERE.
Check the box called "Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer." was already checked from last time I did this
   7.
Go to the Flash Player Settings Manager website. Click HERE.
Click on the button to remove the data that the Flash plugins has stored for websites that you have visited.

   8. Check if your sound device settings are correct:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Audio  <--- did NOT do,  these are correct unchanged

   9.
If you have QuickTime installed, then go to the ***QuickTime control panel.

On the Audio tab, set "Default Music Synthesizer" to "General MIDI".<-- Changed         to MIDI

On the Advanced tab, disable "Enable playback of Adobe Flash tracks".<---------------There is NO Adobe Flash Track Option listed in Quick Time/Advanced

On the browser tab, click on "MIME Settings". Under "Miscellaneous", make sure "Flash media" is unchecked.<----- Misc. box was unchecked - There is No "Flash media" in the drop down list Only SMIL 1.0 Miscellaneous File Formats
**** 9.
If you have QuickTime installed, then go to the QuickTime control panel. <--- Not Control Panel It IS Prefrences

  10.
Check if the file msacm32.drv is present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder. If not, copy it from another PC (that has the same version of Windows) and place the file in the system32 folder. If you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, then the file should be present in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder.<--- Yes! INSTALLED
  11.
If you are also having sound problems with other applications, then re-installing your audio drivers might solve the problem.

Hi, thanks. Well the fact that you could see the animation means you have Flash Player Installed correctly and the latest version. However, I would like you to Use IE and go to Tools, Manage Addons. Then look for "Show"(very light text) and look in All Add ons for Shockwave Flash Object and make sure it is Enabled. It should also say vs 10.1.82.76. -->

   4. Run the uninstaller. If you see the message "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?", click Yes.

IT professionals: Find information on command line options at "Installation issues when switching between release and debugger versions during development and testing".

Important! If any applications are using Flash Player when you run the uninstaller, uninstall may complete without deleting all the necessary files. If you accidentally left any applications open, close all applications and run the uninstaller again. Applications that use Flash Player include web browsers such as Internet Explorer, instant messaging clients such as AOL Instant Messenger, stand-alone SWF applications (*.swf files), and projectors (*.exe files that play Flash content).

   5. Restart your computer.

   6. Open the About Adobe Flash Player page to verify that you have uninstalled Flash Player. If you see an information box similar to the one below, Flash Player was not uninstalled:
------------------------------------------
VERSION INFORMATION

You have version
10.1.53.64 installed
-----------------------------------------

In this case, repeat these steps to uninstall Flash Player.

Uninstallation succeeded if:

    * The About Adobe Flash Player page tells you that Flash Player cannot be found and needs to be installed

or

    * You see a "broken" image such as a blue diamond or a question mark where the Version Information box would normally appear.

More solutions

For information on command line switches for the uninstaller, see "Installation issues when switching between release and debugger versions during development and testing".

For information on installing Flash Player on a Windows system, see "Troubleshoot Flash Player installation | Windows".

For information on installing Flash Player on an Intel-based Mac, see "Can't install Flash Player | Intel-based Mac OS".

Hi! I have been reading / researching - going without YouTube sound for a very long time! I hope you can help? I am writing to you because I couldn't find a way to post a new question in the Flash forum. I read your response to a simular question, and also read the instructions that Adobe supplied before posting onto a forum.

I am using Windows XP Prof. PC 32 bit.

I did the checking with the website you provided - as to what version I am using in Flash: I was able to get animation - NO Sound

*** Flash10c.ocx File version: 10.0.32.18                Type: Active X Cointrol

*** 2. FlashInstall                                                    Type:  Text Document

*** 8.  uninstall_activeX  File version:10.0.32.18          Type:Application

IE  Add ons Shockwave Flash Object  Enabled IE :  LISTED:    10.0.32.18  Enabled

The end of this forum note was to uninstall - Here is what it said:
The fix for this is to uninstall Flash and then delete the following registry key (Admin rights will be required).
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-shockwave-flash

I don't know how to access this information, and don't know if it will fix my sound problems. Everything plays EXCEPT YouTube or other outside videos play without sound.

If you have any other suggestions I would Appreciate hearing from you!

PLEASE HELP! I'm desperate! *-)

Many Thanks!

FF:
Shockwave Flash
10.0.82.76
Shockwave Flash
10.1 r82
The latest build of Flash is 10.1.82.76, a security update. The installation of that update created a permissions conflict on my system and at least one other which caused embedded Flash content to not display.
The fix for this is to uninstall Flash and then delete the following registry key (Admin rights will be required).
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-shockwave-flash

Then install Flash and the permission mask should now be correct. A quick test of embedded content will confirm."
After trying various ideas over the past three weeks, this was the only one that worked for me.
Please spread this fix it was so frustrating.

    Hi Charlotte,

You don't say what your version of Windows you have. Assuming XP, go to Start | Run, type DXDIAG and click OK. Click the Sound tab and run the tests to eliminate a hardware problem first of all. If you don't hear anything, check your cables first of all. Also make sure "Mute" isn't checkmarked in your sound setup. You'll find that in Windows Control Panel.

Which browser do you use? If you have Firefox 4, sign up to the HTML5 trial @ http://www.youtube.com/html5

HTML5 is the latest video standard and doesn't require Flash player. Google is in the process of converting all its files to work with the new format. It may solve you problem. If you don't have Firefox 4, you can get it from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/

    IE8 doesn't support HTML5.

To clean out your temp files, go to Start | Run, type: CLEANMGR and click OK. Click OK again to start the utility. Tick all the boxes except "Compress old files" because the latter takes too long, and then click OK. You can run this utility any time you wish by the way.

The above steps will hopefully fix your problem. If not, post here again please.
