Hello all,

Is there anyone that can please help me with Flash 10. I upgraded a while ago and since then, have not been able to watch a video without the video stream freezing constantly. I have Wondows XP pro. DSL internet,

I never had a problem watching a video on my computer until this upgrade. I have uninstalled Flash, then reinstalled it, then downloaded the zip, then reinstalled the Active X on desk top, then everything else Adobe say's to do.

Nothing I have tried has worked. Thank you for any help.

    Hi W&K-
Glad to hear you got your FP working.
Somewhere along the line you might've installed a "Debug" version. They sometimes gather data and drop it onto the port card to be dl'd for tshooting by folks much smarter than I R. OR maybe the computer gods felt you had suffered enough.....
    Now ya can reeeelax!
btw- Thanks for the link to your fix. Good info! I'll put it on my "Sticky..."
If ya get a chance, mark that post w/the link as "answered", so others can enjoy it.

    I finally fixed it!!!

I happen to stumble on a web blog that helped repair my flash problem. As a matter of fact, it has nothing to do with flash. I tested the speed of my so called super high speed connection and it was only 10% of what is supposed to be. I contacted my provider and they purged the port??? Whatever that is... Well, the tech said the connection was filled with back logged errors and after she was finished, the problem was solved..

IE8 / vFP10 . Cleaned everything, defraged, uninstalled with add/remove. Uninstalled with the adobe uininstall, upgraded to IE8 to see if that would work. vfp10 still won't allow the dbl click??? Logged as admin. was no help? Sorry to get flustered but, it's getting on my last nerve. Even went through a system restore to a date when it worked. Nothing. ARRRGGGHHH!

I upgraded from 9 to 10 and back again. I installed, uninstalled, with java on/off. reloaded qicktunes/safari/ in every other form I have loaded FP and with no luck. The dble click does not work on the new version 10.0.22.87 either. Is it not installed correctly?

I turned off/on add ons. turned off / on phishing filter. deleted java/quicktunes. turned off msmsger/ IM upgraded IE and everything else I have been able to find on this problem. It worked perfectly until I upgraded to this latest version. I'm at my witts end.

    Thanks, Gary.

    Hi W&K-
    OK, relax....slow down...
Quicktime (w/itunes) is just a media player. No prob there, just don't set it as the default player.
Safari (the browser) is not for you. If you want to try another browser, get Firefox and load the FP plugin.
You NEED both javascript and Java (Sun Micro) enabled and working for FP and other functions.
Note: Javascript is updated through Windows/MS updates, Java is updated via the coffee cup icon in the Control Panel, or at the www.java.com site.
Phishing filter and MS Messenger can stay off.
So where are you now? IE7 w/FPv?
You may need to clean up your pc again, IE7 cookies, etc., Disk Cleanup (My Computer, rt click on C:, Properties/Tools. Consider getting CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com), it's free, and has a mellow registry cleaner (Install w/o Yahoo toolbar) be sure to save changes to the registry.
Above all, don't get stressed-out about this. Computers can sense our weakness and pounce!

    Hi W&K-
Huh? I thought you were going to up to the new vFP10. Well OK.
I'll guess that ya went for v9.0.159.0, I don't know what vletter it has (9a,b,h, etc.). Maybe this version doesn't have the ability for the "wizard", or to be updated in that manner (it is for "Unsupported Systems" aka- old OS), maybe the updater just didn't work, I donno. Did you get the flying F? What did the Flash version tester say? AND, most of all, does FP work? Note that a website may say "You need the latest...." or "You need FP v9....." but who cares, as long as FP works for ya.

    Hi Shorethings-
What earlier post? Do ya mean W&K and Cube39's issue (jerky/choppy vids aka "buffering")?
Yep, I'll have to do some a-thinkin' on this vid prob.
The new v10 does seem to have fixed the IE7/FP10 freeze/crash issue.
BUT that doesn't help you folks....

There you are in a new thread.
You're probably Vista, so the FlashUtil10x trick for you is rt click, Run as Admn.

    Hi W&K and Cube39-
Stay with the uppin' to the new v10, and we'll work on it. NO Google Toolbar!
Ya can always revert to new v9.0.159.0 (formerly 901510) if needed.

    Hi Gary,

Well, I have done everything listed in this forum and nothing has worked. I updated my video driver as well. Also, I followed all the steps on this page.

    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15511

The flash still freezes and re loads (buffers) from that freeze point. I'm loosing the last bit of hair on my head trying to correct this.

    Hi W&K and Cube39-
I had to check on some info, provided by fellow user Hexaae, who's been kind enough to do some testing along with me, as misery loves company!
OK. You both have now a v9, and your only prob is jerky, choppy vids. Yes, it is a buffering issue (play runs faster than it can dl). The workaround for this is a number of things, one being to either pause or hold the play until the dl bar gets on ahead. CNN is bad about this, as they dump-load (que up) a buncha vids, so the first one is really choppy. It's partly the fault of this site and others, 'cause they assume everybody is now "superhighspeed". Dialup users don't stand a chance anymore. Other things to do: One User only while playing vids; close out (exit) other stuff that uses flash, like Yahoo Chat, AIM, Messenger, and especially Limewire (resource hog).
    OK, enough of that.
As I mentioned before, the first FP10's (10.0.12.36) major prob is exactly your issue. The new version 10.0.22.87 is supposed to have the fixes for that and more. I suggest you folks upgrade to that version and we'll take it from there.
Uninstall your v9 via the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, install the new v10, and verfy your installation. If you want, you can do the "dbl click on the FlashUtil10x" trick. Reply back w/results.
Yes, Cube39, you say you've already done that, but you'll have to get to the new v10 anyway, so let's not have to tshoot twice...
BTW- NO Google Toolbar! I don't know why that's included...

    Thanks for the info, Gary.

Unfortunately, nothing has worked. The wizard box does not apper when I dbl click the flashutl10a file.

I found that after unistalling flash, using the adobe uninstall file, that flash 9 utility is still present and will not allow me to uninstall even as administrator.

I have re-reinstalled flash several times using all the links provided and it still freezes. I dwnloaded the subnet file and the other one loaded to the same location and still nothing fixes the problem.

    Hi W&K-
You didn't say what browser you're using, so I'll continue to assume that it's IE (prob IE7). I'm stil not sure what zip file you're referring to.
What did you see when you used the Flash Version Checker?
Did you look at thetechangel.com's fix? It covers permissions issues. Did you reboot? Step 6 is quite important, as AIM, WMessenger, Yahoo chat all use Flash and will block the wiz from doing its job.
You probably had v90124 previously, installed with All-in-one printer software (HP is famous for that). It installed FP with limited permissions and is a major "B" to remove. Sometimes at the start ya get lucky and can remove it by the Control Panel/Add or Remove progs, but you probably got the Adobe-prompted (yes/no screen) and clicked yes. Many folks did and it worked fine, others not so much.....that FP10 install was supposed to have uninstalled the previous version. I've seen plenty of pcs that work OK with that one file left over, providing it's grayed out. To remove it may involve some registry work and that's not for the inexperienced.
I'll check out a coupla things and reply back.

    Hi again W&K-
I got a little wordy in the last post (sorry).
As I said before, if you have only the FlashUtil9x file left and it's grayed out, you can still install/use FP10.
BUT, if you can't get FP10 working to your liking, you can revert to a v9. (I have that info in my "Sticky..." thread). Then upgrade to FP10 at a later date.
I've heard success stories about using v9.0.151.0 http://www.adobe.com/go/kb406791
That's not one you would've had previously, but it works fine.
Either v9 you choose, be sure to uninstall FP10 first (you know how to do it!), as you'll be steppin' back.

    Hi W&K-
This is the most common issue in this forum. Sounds like you've installed FP and you got the verify screen (flying F). Did you reboot? Did ya clear your IE cache (history, etc.)?
If you're using IE browser try this: Log on as an Admn User. Go online.
Go to C:/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash. You should have a FlashUtil10x, a Flash 10x.ocx, an uninstaller and maybe a text file (the "x' in 10x could be any letter). Dbl click on the FlashUtil10x and a "wizard" should appear. Follow the instructions. This should "set" the install and also update the FP.
If this doesn't work, see the thread in this forum "Adobe Flash Player 10 Fix for Vista & XP" by thetechangel.com dated 10/31/08. Also see my thread "STICKY (sort of)- Handy FP10 Links" for relevant links.
    Good luck!
