Old guy with old computer Windows XP and Firefox 47.  Have followed Adobe Page - Installation problems/Flash Player/ Windows 7 and earlier.  I have run the uninstaller....page shows Flash not installed.  When I attempt to install Player 19, I continue to get message "Must run uninstaller first"  What am I doing wrong??  Thanks!

Are you uninstalling use the entry in Add/Remove Programs, or the actual uninstaller (see Uninstall Flash Player for Windows)  In order to install a previous version of Flash Player you'll need to run the standalone uninstaller before you can install the previous version.  Uninstalling only from the Add/Remove Programs does not enable the installing of previous versions.

If you are using the standalone uninstaller and still getting the error, please upload the FlashInstall.log file saved at c:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash to cloud.acrobat.com/send using the instructions at How to share a document.  If this is a 64-bit operating system, the FlashInstall.log file saved at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash directory is also required for troubleshooting.

I was using the stand alone uninstaller.  32 bit system.  I have sent a copy of the file .... hope I did it right!  Shared Files - Acrobat.com

There are a few registry entries that are not being deleted due to insufficient permissions (access denied).  These entries prevent the installation of previous versions of Flash Player (prevent downgrading to unsecure versions), and prevent installing a stable build over a beta build or vice versa, without first uninstalling the version installed.  The solution is to repair the permissions on the registry entries and then run the uninstaller again to remove these entries.  Once they are removed you should be able to install the previous version (although, not advised/recommended as previous versions contain vulnerabilities that were fixed in subsequent releases).  There are a few options:

    1. Follow the instructions in the Adobe tech note: Troubleshoot Flash Player install issues related to Windows registry permissions
    2. Use Microsoft's Fix It tool https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17590/automatically-diagnose-and-repair-windows-file-and-folder-problems
      1. This doesn't mention registry entries, so not sure if the Fix It tool will actually fix registry permissions issues or just file system issues.
    3. Follow the instructions in the Microsoft knowledge base article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/968003 - This is similar to option 1 above, but repairs permissions on the entire registry and file system, where as the file in option 1 only repairs a sub-set of registry entries and file system permissions pertaining to Flash Player.
