Problem playing SWF with latest Flash Player installed

Hi There,

I created a bunch of SWF's a few years ago (around 2004) and I no longer have the original project files to create them again. I think I targeted either Flash 5 or 6 with the software (ViewletCam - screen recording software).

The videos were fine up until around last year at some point when users upgraded their flash player and the SWFs no longer worked.

1. Is this a known problem?

2. Is there anyway to target an older flash framework? (maybe i can capture them and convert them to FLV if i can get it working for myself)

Here's a sample SWF

Thanks for reading

Sean

    Hi,

Sorry I didnt actually put the exact problem in my first post!

    The Problem

The video works for a certain duration (this varies in all of the swf files)... then all of a sudden it will stop and go black. I think its something to do with some of the objects used by the original software.

If you skip that video after 30secs duration, you'll get a blank video. The same applies if you watch it past a certain duration ~20-30secs.

    Any ideas?

    update:

Tested in debug version 9,0,283,0 and the problem still occurs.

It does say that this version includes fixes for security updates, but it doesn't really tell me weather that was the reason for these halting.

Im currently running windows 7 and it seems older installers (macromedia) from oldversion.com fail to work.... i can try on my windows xp box later.

    Any other ideas?

    update 2:

    I've found a temporary solution....

    1. uninstall current version

    2. install version 7 r61

    3. convert SWF to FLV.... things like ffmpeg wont work properly, but Moyea SWF4Tube uses a capture mechanism which works pretty well.

    4. Store FLV in replacement of SWF.

I would still like to know why though if anybody has insight on that
