problem with youtube (FF)

Hi, I usually use Fire Fox but currently am having trouble watching videos in youtube, the place where the video should be appears black, the rest of the page loads fine.

I´ve tried with google chrome and it worked for a while, but then the same thing. Internet explorer seems to have no problem, but i can´t understand why FF doesn´t work.

I´ve checked and have the latest version of flash player. Can anyone help me?

Thank you!

Well youtube's working for me, now, without having to type in "S", so maybe they got it. Anybody else still having the issue?

I made a vid for poeple to mirror, givin instructions in the title, so that might help those who are still having the issue.

Hi nick, thanks for the update. I haven't been to youtube since earlier today. We'll see if there are any more reports today on the Forum. Will check out your vid later.

If Google/Youtube fixed the issue, I hope they say what it was/is. They hadn't as of this morning, so we'll see.

Hi all, It's about 1:00PM EDT U.S. and this is the latest that I have found:

Here is what many users are doing in addition to clearing the cache, history etc.

They are using https instead of http. So try it. Here is one that you can check to see if it works. If so, use the https until youtube/google respond.

Please let me know if this works.

    Thanks,

Hi, everybody. Another one, right here. Just started happening sometime last night, can;t recall when. Big black screen. Videos embedded into, say, Cracked.com work fine, but not youtube itself. I tried typing "s" into it, and yeah that works. Hopefully they fix this crap so I don;t have to bloody do that every time.

Hi Nick, I haven't taken time yet this morning to see if there is anything new. All I know at the moment is what I posted on this thread and a few others last night. I'll post anything new and helpful if I find it.

Well, the more I search the more I find. I had heard that FF release vs 5.0 and that for all intents and purposes it was just a Security update. Instead of updating the latest FF 4.+, they just released 5.0.

However, now I find that 3 months ago, this youtube HTTPS issue was on the FF forum. So FF evidently knew something then.

From the FF forum back in March 2011:

    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/793361

I had heard back in early May, that various website Players were going to be changed and the first was going to be youtube, so I'm not discounting this that is now being reported. I just find the info on FF above curious.

    Thanks,

I thought about FF being the issue, but I didn't update from 3.6 until after this issue started. I even tried going Back to 3.6. Whatever the issue is, it's youtube's doing. They're too big and popular to allow it to go for long(one would assume). Thanks for all the digging.

Hi lostcowhand, Nothing new yet, just add'l info. This is effecting Chrome and IE also. Which makes sense since it's a change at youtubes end. So Safari and all Flash Player supported browsers are going to be effected.

I can't believe something this big and crickets until it breaks loose. That or I've missed it all, LOL. Hard to do here on the Flash Player Forum tho!

Hopefully, we'll get complete info soon........

Ok, here is what I found:

YouTube just updated their video player, so the old version could still be cached in your browser causing it to fail. I would suggest rebooting, and if that's already done then make sure your drivers are up to date.

If that does not work make sure you download the new version of flash.  Posted3 hours ago
No, I had the exact same problem but it worked the second I cleared my internet cache which could have to do with what another user above said about that.

Go to tools, options, clear recent history, and only check the 'cache' option, clear now, okay, and then refresh or exit it and open it again. I didn't even have to restart my browser. I'm using firefox too, by the way. Good luck! I hope this helped!  Posted 2 hours ago
Let me know if that is the issue. I'm not done searching, but that's what I found so far.

I'm glad one person got it working, but clearing the cache didn't work for me. I even uninstalled/resinstalled flash After I cleared the cache still no-go. The only thing that works is to add an "s" after "http". The video will then play and all others will too until you close the browser. I don't understand that part. Also, youtube does not have any alerts posted about the issue.

    July 7, 2011

Hi, Did you follow all of those instructions I posted? I didn't see any Sticky or info on youtube either, but I didn't have time to look around. Plan on doing some more checking, but that HTTPS evidently is what is needed. This came up a couple of days ago, but it wasn't related to youtube per se.

I think you have to put that URL into the trusted zone, so try that. Is it  https://www.youtube.com ? I guess so, nothing else activated.

Oh, if you have any other websites in the trusted zone that are NOT HTTPS, I would leave that check mark off on the server verification. There was a discussion about that also today or yesterday, can't rememeber as it gets busy around here, LOL

    Let me know.

I replied to this one instead of starting a new thread.

I have the exact same problem with youtube. It started this morning without anything changing. I didn't update Flash until the issue started. I have tried every possible troubleshoot that youtube and adobe list plus a few of my own. I tried IE7 also, same thing.

Only Youtube has the problem, all other sites that use Flash work fine. What's the deal?

Yes, the Adobe test site works fine(spinning red F)

    WinXP SP3

    FF 5.0

Hi, I'm not sure what is going on as I've seen this several times in the last few days. Maybe I should go there, but I'll have to switch computers as youtube frowns on IE6, LOL

I thot Adobe Flash Player and youtube had everything fixed!! The only thing I can suggest for the moment until we find out what is going on is turning off the hardware acceleration. Go to this test site:  http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

and right click on the Flash Player logo, Settings then Display Settings and UNcheck H.A.

See if that makes a difference. In the meantime, I'll venture over to youtube despite IE6(my work computer)

Disabled hardware acceleration, didn't work. Also, I notice there are a lot of new "comments" on youtube videos since this started. I wonder why they are able to watch the vids?

Hi, What Operating System are you using and is it a 32bit or 64bit? Is FF version 5.0? What version of IE do you have?

Using FF, can you see the Flash Player logo(Red F) animation(spinning)  http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

    Thanks,
