Problems viewing embedded flash videos

About 2 weeks ago I had the error message while on Youtube that I needed to update my flash software. I did so and since then I can't see any videos that are embedded on websites. I can see them if I click on the direct link only and it pops up the youtube page, otherwise all I can see is an icon. Is there a way to go back to my older version of flash? I just checked IE manage add ons and it says that I have 9.0.28.0 still enabled, but when I go to the Adobe page that detects what version I am using it says I have the latest version 10.something. I am running I.E. 8 (which I dislike) is it possible to go back to I.E. 7 and avoid all this mess? If so how? I haven't run the latest Windows updates, btw. I do have Google Toolbar which I love. Please don't tell me to get rid of it because it was a pain finding it and installing it after I updated to I.E.8 and it threw it out.

Any help would be appreciated as I need to be able to view embedded videos.

    Correct answer

    Hi.

There was no way to do either in I.E. 8. I was able to get into manage add ons but there was nowhere to update it. I couldn't find anything in the Tools-> IE>Settings to do anything; I couldn't find any link for I.E. or settings in Tools. Sorry. Thanks for your help though. I appreciate it. So what do I do next?

Hi SF, I think at this point you will need to Uninstall and Install the new version of FP 10.0.42.34. The Shockwave Flash

Object Flash10c.ocx did not get installed in manage add ons, even tho you installed FP 10.0.32.18.

Here is the link for the Uninstaller that you will after you click on the "Windows version" SAVE to your desktop:

    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Here is the link for the Installer that you will run immediately after Uninstalling:http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

This will NOT be saved to your desktop.

(I had an internet outage this morning or I would have posted this sooner)

Follow the instructions completely for the Uninstall and be sure to Reboot TWICE to clear out all old versions. After the Install, Reboot Once.

After you are finished go here to test:   http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

Then test your websites to see if everything is working as it should and post back.

    Thanks

I do not understand the problem you're experiencing.  But if you want to revert to your previous IE version, just uninstall IE8.

The problem is I can't see flash videos that are embedded on websites. I can only see videos if I go directly to youtube and view them. When a web page opens with an embedded flash video all I see is an icon where the video is supposed to be. On various forums, in which people have posted an embedded video that is hosted on Youtube, I only can see the same icon. However if I ask them for a direct link, I can click on it, it opens youtube and I see the video. Not everyone posts a direct link to wherever their video is hosted. So I am trying to figure out how I can get the ability to see embedded flash videos back again? I have even asked on the forums (where the video was hosted) if anyone else is having problems viewing the embedded video, and no one else has the problem. The problem only started after I upgraded my flash software to the current version. Please help it's extremely frustrating.
