repeated attempts at installation, keep receiving prompt to install

I'm running Safari 5.0.5 and Firefox 3.6.16 on my Mac w/ OS X 10.5.8:

  Model Name:    MacBook Pro 17"
   Model Identifier:    MacBookPro1,2
   Processor Name:    Intel Core Duo
   Processor Speed:    2.16 GHz
   Number Of Processors:    1
   Total Number Of Cores:    2
   L2 Cache:    2 MB
   Memory:    2 GB
   Bus Speed:    667 MHz

Every time I try to watch something, I receive the prompt to download the new Flash player and install it.

So I do.

And I go back the page.

And get the same message.

The only thing I can think of that I haven't done is run disk utility for a permissions check/repair.

Thoughts?

    problem solved.

i ran disk utility to diagnose permission changes, and a bunch of permissions needed to be repaired. (i still have some permissions that need to be fixed that weren't, so i'll need to get a boot disk and re-run disk utility to fix the remainder.)

once disk utility was run, i uninstalled and re-installed, and it got hung up on the 95% for a good 5 minutes. not trusting it, i uninstalled and re-installed *again* and now everything is showing up as it should, including the rotating red F.

If you go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/, can you see the Flash animation (rotating red 'F'), and does it tell you what Flash Player version is installed (below)?

Looks like FP is not installed, then.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Macs, so all I can do is point you to the troubleshooting page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html
