Scared to follow troubleshooting directions for Active X registry problem

Hopefully someone can help....Few weeks ago we started getting error messages that we couldn't view content online unless we upgraded to Flash 10.3.  I have tried and tried, but keep getting error that Active X cannot be registered.  I've read through the trouble shooting info on this error message and as a casual computer user it scares the daylights out of me.  There is no way I can go into the system registry to fix on my own!  I have an older computer running Windows XP Professional and IE 8.  Any help would be appreciated!!!!

    I'm signed in as administrator.  When i go to that link i can see the "F", but it's not moving or spinning or anything.  The error message comes up about the Active X registry after I hit the install button on the Flash popup screen.

    That means Flash Player is not completely installed.  I recommend you follow these steps

    • download the FP uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html (save to disk);
    • download the installer(s) from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html (save to disk);
    • run the downloaded uninstaller;
    • run the SubInACL procedure described in my earlier post;
    • run the downloaded installer(s).

    If you did use the Administrator account and the error message persists, use these instructions to get the registry permissions fixed: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html - there is no manual registry editing involved.

    Still, it is always a good idea to do a registry backup (ERUNT) or System Restore Point before proceeding.

    Hi, I'm sure that kind of message didn't come from Adobe. The 10.3 has only been out since 5/12/11. The error message indicates that there is a Permission issue. Perhaps you didn't use the Administrator Account, which is needed to be used when Installing Flash Player.

    Using IE, go to this test site and let me know if you can see the Flash logo(Red F) animation(spinning). What version of Flash Player is displayed as Installed?  http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

    Let me know.

    Thanks,
