Shockwave/Flash keeps crashing in Google Chrome

Whenever I'm in Facebook, or working with on-line graphics programs, the screen will freeze and I will get a message that the "Shockwave plug-in is not responding.  Do you want to stop the plug-in?"  If I say yes, the next message is "Shockwave has crashed"  and I have to reload.  If I say no, the screen just stays frozen.  I've checked to see if there are two versions running - there is only one:  This is the plug-in info:

Adobe Flash Player - Version: 14.0.0.145

Shockwave Flash 14.0 r0

Name:Shockwave Flash

Description:Shockwave Flash 14.0 r0

Version:14.0.0.145

Location:C:\Users\Leah\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\PepperFlash\14.0.0.145\pepflashplayer.dll

Type:PPAPI (out-of-process)

Disable
MIME types:
MIME typeDescriptionFile extensions
application/x-shockwave-flashShockwave Flash
.swf
application/futuresplashShockwave Flash
.spl
I've checked for viruses - the computer is clean.  I'm running Windows 8.1.  Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue. Just recently on a website called massively.com, I was trying to listen to their podcast and the plugin crashed at least 4 times within the first few minutes.

Windows 8.1 Pro

Chrome Version 35.0.1916.153 m

Adobe Flash Player (2 files) - Version: 14.0.0.145

Shockwave Flash 14.0 r0
