As I understand Shockwave is for gamers and developers. I need a flash player to view certain websites [so I'm being told by these sites] but if I install Flash player I get Shockwave plugin. How can i fix it so I only have a Flash plugin?

Yes

Firefox

Yes

I do not see the need to have Shockwave, it's like using a Rolls Royce for the groceries.

Are you saying that Shockwave is part of the deal so live with it?

In other words 'is Shockwave mandatory?'

No, you don't need to have "Shockwave" if you don't use it.  Adobe has a specific product named Shockwave and another product named Flash Player.  Please note those that the naming is somewhat confusing.  Sometimes, in the browser especially, you'll see Flash Player referenced as Shockwave Flash or Sockwave Flash Object.  If it has Flash in the name then it's Flash Player.  If it's just Shockwave, then it's the Shockwave player.

When installing, you only get the one product you are specifically installing.  I suspect, if you've installed Flash Player, you're just seeing the Shockwave Flash name reference.

Ok this is a much clearer,

My plugin [that's what it's all about] is being reported as 'Shockwave Flash' when I do the plugin check in Mozilla. When I look at programs via the uninstaller [only just did this] it appears as Adobe Flash Player plugin.

It would appear that the 'problem' of the name originates in Firefox.

Thank You,

Are you installing from:  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer ?

If so, what browser and operating system are you using?  Do you see the animation and version number when you visit this page: Flash Player Version
