Shockwave set to "ask to activate"

On many websites that I visit, Adobe is at the top asking me to activate or not. It is apparent on many websites (especially without videos) that I do not need Flash to continue reading or participating.

Apparently I do not need flash, so why does Adobe insist on asking me to activate it?

What do you collect when you aren't serving any purpose?

update the plugin to the latest version and if pop-up appears choose automatically activate so you don't have to activate it anytime

According to Adobe, I have the latest version.

Techs have recommended that I set it to Ask.

That doesn't answer the question as to why Adobe wants to install on a particular page if it is not necessary to the viewing and function of that particular page or website. It is also supposed to remember when I check ALLOW on this url. It doesn't appear to do that.

'ask to activate" or "click to play" are browser features, not Flash Player feature. Many browsers are moving to a 'click to play' model where they prompt users to configure Flash Player to either always play, ask to play, or some other option. If you have configured your plugin settings to 'ask' then that's what's happening. Flash Player is used in more than just video play-back so it may not be immediately clear/visible as to why you're being prompted.
