Based on previous "Sunsetted" builds, they will likely continue "security" updates for a few cycles (maybe even up to a year).

But...   Since XP™ was supposed to be sunsetted four years ago, that may or may not happen. Microsoft® only extended XP™ support till next month because of the disaster that Vista™ was, which led many, many people worldwide to decline upgrading their OS.

Microsoft's position now is that they built 7™ as a "fix" for Vista™ and have now moved on to 8™ & 8.1™. So everyone has had plenty of time to upgrade, and at least one good OS to move to, of the last three releases. 7™ is better than XP™ IMHO and it blows 8™ out of the water. I've moved six clients to 7™ from XP™ in the last year, and ALL of them are very happy with it. Microsoft® will be supporting it for at least the next five years. As bas as 8™ is, I don't think they'll be backing it even that long.
