I am attempting to use Flash Player for the first time and I have an SWF file that when clicked goes to Microsoft Word (which doesn't work) how do I get this file to be opened by Flash Player?

I moved this over to the Flash Player forum. "shockwave player" is what plays Director files in a browser, you're asking about Flash Player.

What is the full name of the file that you're trying to open? It should end with ".swf", and I can't think of any reason Word would try to open that. But, you can right-click on the file and select Open With to choose Flash Player as the application to use. Here's Microsoft's instructions, which although are for XP, should still work:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/307859

If you're on Mac, select the file in Finder and Get Info. In there you can set what application opens that file.

In both Windows and Mac you get an option to always open files of that kind with the application you chose.
