Hi Jwm714, I hope Pat's post#21 was helpful and he's right, it has to be followed exactly. Now I have found a thread on Microsoft that may be helpful in this. The one you want to look at and follow is from the following post there:

Monday, October 19, 2009 9:46 PMShawn - Support Engineer Users MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers Medals

    The link is:

    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpinstall/thread/fc4ce54b-27fe-47f6-b0d2-b6ffe5038bd9/

This is from the XP forum and a person could not Install Flash Player.

Now I have read many articles on this SubInACL and all state that ALL Anti-Virus programs must be Disabled. (MBAM doesn't)

Now if you had a problem with this part: Extract the reset_fp10.cmd file to C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. re-read Pat's post where he said this will be created in Step 3.

Now some other people here on the forum have said after they Installed vs 9, (not virus related) and trying the SubInACL and that didn't work, then tried to Install vs 10 again and it worked. So if you want to just try updating to vs 10 again to see if that works for you first, you could. If it doesn't work, then try the SubInACL again.

If you have any questions, let me know. Pat has more experience with the SubInACL than I do, since I've never had to use it.

    Thanks,

I've followed this thread because I've been having the same problem to such an extent that I opted to pay Adobe for their approach to it.  They did the same thing as you have been suggesting by downloading the Microsoft fix's two routines (SublnACL and reset_fp10) that should allow the registry to accept the ActiveX info.  When the Adobe tech tried it remotely from India on my computer, it failed even though he did all of the steps very carefully just I had done at least three times prior which included downloading the Flash player again without the free added Antivirus from Adobe.  However, the tech then immediately ran the locally stored Flash Player 10 exe file for manual loading that I had on the desktop in previous failed attempts, and it loaded for no good reason.  You may want to try this quirky scenario at the end.

Hi Stephen, I know not everyone that uses the SubInACL is successful even when it is followed correctly. Microsoft has reasons for this. The Tech should have disabled all Anti-Virus/Spyware and any Firewall other than Windows prior to running this SubInACL. Any of those can block an Install of Flash Player.

You said Flash Player loaded; is it working?   I'm sure you just left that detail out:-)

I'm glad you finally got it working if that is the case and appreciate the info. The only thing I would add is that there can be other reasons that the ActiveX Control can't be Installed that if found can be corrected without needing to use the SubInACL. Due to that I like to rule out the most obvious first, second, etc. If the issue can be corrected that way, then that is easier.

Hi Computer_Repair, Glad it helped you. However, it is best not to insert your website on the Forum threads. You can add it in your Profile instead.

    Thanks,

Yes I have service pack 3 installed. I downloaded a new version of IE8 with Bing today trying to fix this. version # 8.0.6001.18702IC

Antivirus is AVG free and something was removed a few weeks ago....I think was a possible hack threat, i am not sure. I don't remember any virus threats, but there could have been one.

Also downloaded and installed Paretologic PC Health Advisor and their Xoft SpySE today trying to fix this.....I wasted $40....

See this article how to fix the registry permissions: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html

Hi, Does XP have the Service Pack 3? Also what browsers and versions are Installed?

Have you had a virus and if so was it removed and which Anti-Virus removed it?

That type of error usually indicates a Permission or Registry issue.

What Anti-Virus/Spyware program do you have Installed?

    Thanks,
