I am running a Dell GX300 desktop machine with Win XP pro. Within the last year or so I have been experiencing radom reboots of the machine. This only occurs when accessing the internet. I'm sure I've traced my reboot problem down to Flash Player and sites with Flash content. for instance: http://app.krono.icomedias.com/pictures/blaetterkatalog_englisch/index.html
When I try to access this online catalogue which is done with Flash Player, wham bam and reboot city. This is only one example of a site that I cannot use without my machine rebooting. Think I've found the problem, now I'd like to find the reason and more so a cure?

You know Bentley, I thought Adobe was a cut above most other software companies, but after trying to get some help on my problem and getting the run around, I must reconsider my thoughts. I did as you suggested and opened a web case, just to get a reply back saying that they could not address the issue and I would have to call customer support. Well I called and the guy that answered tried to help. His only conclusion was something wrong with my machine and all he was really suppose to do was refer me to web support. Well I still have the same problem and after opening another web case and getting the same response I'm not real hepped on Adobe. My question to the guy on the phone was how is it my machine when it never reboots unless I hit a site that has flash content and try to do something with it? Anyway maybe someone else will have the same problem and they'll be able to get a cure and pass it on to where I can fix mine too. You were more help than the web support or customer support on the phone. Thanks

Hope you had a good week off. Well I still have the problem. The web support wasn't any help. They just said to call customer support, which I did and they said all they were really suppose to do is refer me to the web support. No one has yet tried to address the issue really. I keep getting go here, no you need to call here. Youo've actually been more help thus far.

You know, I had a Dell that had a similar problem a few years ago. Wipe and reformat and at some point a few months later it would start to crash again (often involving Flash). To be totally honest I never figured out the cause (because I updated to a newer machine).

If you wiped it and reformatted then I'd still be hammering on drivers. If you had another brand of video card handy you might try swapping out cards as well..

One other thing... do a google search for "Flash Player crash log".. you'll find instructions for enabling player crash logging. It doesn't always log consistently but if you could manage to generate a log it would be a lot easier to pinpoint where the crash is coming from.

I've tried so many different things to isolate what's been happening.More memory, larger primary hard drive, new video card with more memory. I've run SpyBot, Adaware, and several other simular programs. I've run several virus detection programs and some programs that run in depth tests on my hardware. I've even tried wiping the HD and reloading everything one by one to see if there was a conflict caused by a program I was running. I'm not an average computer user. I worked as a tech specialist for several years at a school district and this has really got me stumped. Thanks for you help and input.

    Thanks for that.

You'll need to do some of the basics on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer.

For example, a crash of this type that's specific to your machine can be caused by any number of things.. third party stuff running, low memory, video drivers, spyware, etc.. it can be tough for the average PC user to figure out.

If it were my machine the first thing I'd do would be disable as many startup apps as possible. Then I'd look to see if there were any updates available for my video drivers. Then I'd start experimenting with different video driver settings..

I'm going to be out next week so if you don't get happy support on the case please do ask that the case be escalated.

OK at this point I'd like you to open a web support case so I can assign an agent to start faster troubleshooting. You can open a case on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer.

When you get a case number reply back with the number and I'll ask one of my peers to take a look.

Ok Bentley here is the Case #172641454. Also I went to Weather.com and tried using their new interactive map with Fire Fox and when I tried zoom to bring in closer it rebooted my computer just like it does with IE.
Thanks for you assistance thus far.

OK as a test, can you install FireFox and not run IE7 for a few days? See if the crash still occurs?

IE uses the Flash Player ACtiveX control. All other browsers use the Flash Player plugin. I suspect that if Flash is the cause of this reboot it's something to do with the ActiveX control (and the plugin will probably not cause the reboot). So I need to narrow those down before I can come up with any further ideas.

WEll it didn't take a few days. I loaded Fire Fox went to the site I previously mentioned. Had to load Flash to view the cataloge. When I tried to zoom in on some of the flooring samples, WHAM reboot city just like in IE! Still looking for cuse and solution. Also get reboots when I go to Weather.com and try to use the new radar map that is done in Flash Player with IE haven't tried with Fire Fox yet.

I have a question.. When you're browsing the web are you using Internet Explorer, FireFox or some other browser?

We can help you figure this out, but we have to narrow the clues first..
