Trouble up dating Flash

I'm new to CS5 InDesign.  I want to do the tutorial but

when it tries to load it says I need an updated version of "Flash"

I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled several time.

The version that I downloaded is version 10.2.159.1

But when I check on the version number that is installed it says 10.1.53.64.

I have uninstalled that version several time and reinstalled with version 10.2

yet it still says I'm running 10.1 and the tutorial won't run.

What do I need to do to fix this problem???

I'm using a pc xp sp3 and IE 8 32 bit

    Correct answer

    Hi eidholb,

The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} did have a DWord value of 0x00000400.  Which I indicated when I said >0.  So I did delete that key.

There was aslo another HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} with the last group of characters as 96B8-4445535400000}  (note the extra 0 400,000 instead of 40,000).  It also had a DWord Value but it was set to 0 so I left it in place.

The version of flash at this site (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ) is "You have version 10,2,159,1 installed"

And yes I can see the Red Flash Flag.

I have not rebooted since I made the Regedit change,  Should I do that??

Hi, This part 0x00000400.  you left out in the previous post. When you said the value was 0, I understood that to mean that was the value:-)

Ok, so the Kill-bit was set and you removed the Key.

So now the test site is indicating the correct Flash Player version and you can see the Flash Player logo.

Yes, go ahead and Reboot and then see if the Shockwave Flash Object is Installed.

    Thanks,

What files do you have in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash ?

On IE, Tools, Add-ons, can you see Shockwave Flash Object - what version does it show, and is it enabled?

The following files are in my C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

    RestartIE.exe
    Restart.exe
    install.log
    FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.exe
    FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.dll
    FlashInstall.log
    FlashAuthor.cfg
    Flash10p.ocx
    FlashPlayerTrust (folder)

in IE, Tools, "Manage Add-ons", there is NOTHING about Shockwave Flash Object or version number or enabled.

Please reply and let me know how to proceed.

I need to be able to view the tutorials in InDesign

    Thanks you for your time.

Hi, Until Pat gets back with you I just noticed that the RestartIE.exe & Restart.exe is in your System32 Flash folder. I have never seen this before. Do you know why they are there? Only Flash Player files should be in that location.

What Anti-Virus program(s) are Installed? Have you had any Virus/Malware issues? You may want to check to see if you have a Kill-bit set. Just look for this Key and then Pat will give you advice on it if you have it.
