When I try to install, popup says "Install Adobe Flash Player is trying to install a new helper tool. Enter your password to allow this." User name shows my name. Tried new password and it failed. Changed user name to email address and tried new password again. It failed.

When you are installing or updating on a Mac, that is your Mac asking you to prove that you have permission by asking for your COMPUTER password, not your Adobe password https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2139902

I got the same message as the guy above. I tried doing what John T Smith said and that is NOT correct.

When software installs files to protected file systems, the OS prompts the user to enter an admin userID/password to elevate permissions to write to the protected file system location.  Please ensure the userID/password you are using is for an admin account, not a standard user account.

If you're having problems with the password, see Change or reset the password of a macOS user account
