Unable to do ANYTHING with new Flash Player Update

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get Flash Player 10.3 to work on my Windows 64-bit OS with the latest version of IE 9.  It worked fine until the June 28th update and then nothing.  I have been working on all the recommendations from the troubleshooting page of Adobe's support page, including making another User Account (which has it working perfectly, btw), but to no avail.  When I try to go to the download page and hit the button, the screen goes to the page that shows the instructions for when the yellow box appears uptop...but then it does nothing.  It doesn't download, it doesn't show the yellow box, nothing. Yesterday it was at least downloading the download manager, but now it won't even do that.  I've tried the hardware acceleration changes, the security changes, disabling the anti-virus, everything they've recommended in troubleshooting.  I've even tried installing a previous version (the one before June 28th) and it just tells me I need to update my Flash Player.  I'm at a complete loss here.  I even tried System Restore and it did nothing.  Any ideas at all?

Oh, and when I go to check what version I have installed (the Control Panel/Uninstall page shows Flash Player as being installed due to the other account's installation), that page only shows a blank white box with a red circle and cross bar in it and no version number whatsoever.

I do have Google Chrome also installed on my system, if that might be a problem, but I've had both on my system for as long as I can remember Chrome being out and never had this problem, as I said before, before the latest update.

Hi again flutie, Here is an update. I know more about this now than I did the last time. If you have ANY websites listed in the trusted zone that are not ALL HTTPS, Do NOT have that server verification checked.

You will be interested in reading this thread that I hadn't seen due to the 4th of July Holiday.

Hi flutie, I checked in IE8 and don't have that Setting. In Advanced in Internet Options a "Check for Server Certificate revocation" is able to be checked or Unchecked.

I read some of the info online and Microsoft answers about the Setting you are concerned with and see where they say to UNcheck it, but haven't the time right now to see why . Therefore I don't understand it, sorry.

Let me know what happened if you checked it.

P.S. I do know that the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" should be UNchecked.

    Thanks,

Hi, I just reviewed your info and you may want to see if this is a problem.

Then when you reply back, are you using Win7 or what OS? I know it's a 64bit.

    To turn on ActiveX Filtering
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, point to Safety, and then click ActiveX Filtering.
To turn off ActiveX Filtering on a specific website
In Internet Explorer, click the Filter button in the Address bar, and then click Turn off ActiveX Filtering.
To turn off ActiveX Filtering on all websites
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, point to Safety, and then click ActiveX Filtering.

You want to turn the ActiveX Filtering OFF if it's on.

    Thanks,

Oh thank you SO much for all your help!  I kept searching the forums and today I found a solution to my problem.  It was the IE9 Tools > Internet Options > Security> Trusted Sites >Sites page.  I read to uncheck the "require server verification" box and added the adobe.forums.com address to the sites and it worked.  Well after I turned OFF ActiveX Filtering.  I forget which post the instructions were from...I think it was "movies won't play."  I tried it cause I figured, "nothing gained..."  At any rate, I'm just curious if I have to leave that "require server verification" box unchecked...I mean it is, but is it safe to.  I haven't really checked to see if I can check it again and the flash player will still work yet.  I AM curious if you would have ANY idea why this worked at all too?  I like to learn.

Hi, I use IE8, so let me check on that server verification setting. Just a guess on my part, but I think the ActiveX Filtering had more to do with it, since if it's ON, it blocks Flash Player from working. This is a Security Feature and it appears the idea is to turn it ON on all websites and then turn if OFF on those you trust. Now you can also add trusted sites so you don't have to make that decision each time.

I'll check on the other setting. All I can say about that is that I have not heard of the Setting having any effect on Flash Player working, but I certainly have about the ActiveX Filtering:-)

If I were you, I'd try checking that Setting and see what happens. You can always UNcheck it if it has anything to do with Flash Player.

    Thanks,

First of all, be sure to use the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer; the currently released Flash Player does not run on 64-bit browsers.

To get Flash Player installed, try the following

    • download the uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html (save to disk);
    • download the executable installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html (save to disk);
    • close all browser windows, then run the downloaded uninstaller, followed by the installer.

Can you now see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

If not, please list what files you have in C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash

Hi, I tried the steps you listed and still nothing.  I got the same white box with a blue circle and slash through it (not red this time)

as before.  Other than that, nothing happened.  Here is the file information you requested:

    Flash10u.ocx

    FlashInstall

    FlashUtil10u_ActiveX.dll

    FlashUtil10u_ActiveX

    install

I don't know how to get an image into this forum, so forgive me if typing didn't give enough information.

On Internet Explorer, Tools | Manage add-ons, can you see Shockwave Flash Object, and is it enabled?

You can use the camera icon on the forum editor to insert an image into the post.

In this case it would help, as I do not understand what the symbol you describe means.
