Unable to download Flash in Firefox because system tells me I have it in Google Chrome. Ideas?

I didn't know the two communicated so I deleted Adobe Flash trying to resolve an issue and now I can't reinstall it because it keeps recognizing the program on my Google Chrome, though I'm using Firefox to install. Any thoughts on how to get around this?

Here's the thing. When I'm attempting to download the player I'm in Firefox, but after it fails and I click to see the problems with Windows troubleshooting- it pulls up Google Chrome.

I couldn't get a screenshot because I'm using a Dell Notepad and it doesn't have Microsoft Word, just Notepad.

However, the OS I'm using is Windows XP.

Thank you for the additional information. It's very helpful.

When installation fails and the browser launches it auto-launches the default browser as there's no way for the installer to know which specific browser to launch. If you have Chrome configured as the default browser it explains why Chrome is launching after the failed installation.

You don't specify the error message, however, we are aware that the online installer doesn't work on some XP systems. Please try using the offline installer posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows page in the 'Still having problems' section.

Flash Player NPAPI for Firefox and PPAPI for Chrome are two completely different plugins and do not communicate with each other.

To confirm, you are indicating that you are using Firefox to download Flash Player from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer. If this is correct, please post a screenshot (see How to post a screenshot in the forum) clearly showing the browser as Firefox and the page detecting the browser as Chrome and I will forward it to the team that handles the download page to investigate as this should not be the case. Also, what OS is this on?
