Installed Flash Player on my Mac Friday. Received an email today telling me "Adobe releases 23 Security Patches," Critical, Install now. Is this someone phishing?

    Hi,

That's absolutely phishing email.  Adobe doesn't send email notifications for Flash Player updates, unless you have specifically requested to receive email notifications, see Adobe Security Bulletins and Advisories, in which case you'd receive notifications for every single Adobe product, as there's no way to request notifications for specific products.

When reporting phishing issues to phishing@adobe.com, create a new email and include the phishing attempt email as an attachment.  Please don't just forward the phishing attempt email.  Creating a new email and attaching the phishing attempt email preserves email header information that can be used to track down the originating domain.

Thank you very much for this information! The email looked very credible, especially in light of the fact that I had just installed Flash.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, they are made to look very credible.  Most non-IT folks will not sign up to receive official email notifications, and if you didn't do this, then it's most certainly a phishing attempt.

    Hi jkom,

The latest version of Flash Player released by Adobe is 27.0.0.130. Adobe does not email users to update Flash Player.

Could you private message me the url in the email if any and the sender's email address or you could go ahead and forward the email to phishing@adobe.com to report about the phishing attack.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I put the email in my “junk” and it has already been deleted. If I receive any future messages I will forward to you.
