Update mechanism for Adobe Flash

How do we trigger Adobe Flash to prompt user for update?

We are wanting to suppress this update and have created a Group Policy (active directory)

We wish to first confirm we are prompted for the update, then apply the group policy to suppress the update

It is unclear to us what triggers the update in Adobe Flash and Shockwave

Is it by version update or is it every 7 days?
