updates won't install... something to do with permissions?

Question

I'm on a macbook pro OS 10.9.5 I haven't had problems in the past updating Flash Player - - when I get a notice there's an update, I run it and the new version in installed.

The past two times I've received an update however, I download the installer, then start to run it. the installer stops with a message that I can only partially read:

"Installation failed. Not enough perissionst...."

I tried it again, and and it's now frozen on the Connecting window at 0% after I put in my password. WIfi is working just fine.

Could use some suggestions on what to try next. Did I somehow restrict permissions on software downloads? Have no idea where to check that.

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.

If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt. If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.

If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
