Updating Adobe Flash-Application still running?

Question

I go through all the steps to update Adobe Flash, and have (supposedly) closed all applications, but the update process states that Adobe Flash is still running and therefore cannot be installed. According to task manager, the task manager is the only thing open after adobe tells me to close my browser and hit continue.

Where is Adobe hiding that I still need to close it? There are some adobe Flash player bits in the memory but the CPU is not accessing them (under background processes), but that's as far as I can think to look. Its shouldn't be this complicated, should it?

Some third-party desktop applications embed a browser instance, which invokes the system installation of Flash Player. It sounds like one of them is running. Old versions of Yahoo Messenger and AIM used to embed Flash, as an example.

The easiest solution is to reboot. If Flash Player is still running, it's something that you have as a startup item. If it goes away, it was probably a weird orphaned process. Normally we should detect that our parent has disappeared and exit after a bit, but it's in the realm of possibility that it stuck around for some weird reason. If you find a set of steps that consistently reproduces that outcome, we'd certainly be happy to investigate, but my guess is that if this is the case, it would be very unlikely that you'd run into it again.
